Bricking a Porch and Walkway
So, I set out to brick the porch in May 2008 and replace the ailing walkway with brick, too. I thought I'd be done by July 4. How wrong I was.
I finished on Labor Day (after not starting until mid-June). I spent two days tearing out the sidewalk in 100-degree heat. I hauled hundreds of bricks, tons of gravel, hundreds of pounds of sand.
For months.
Just when I thought I might never finish it ... the last bricks went into place. I tapdanced.

In progress
The summer afforded me a lot of work, but there was so much to do that I really couldn't make the house pretty. I at least parked the furniture and planted a small garden.

Before. Don't have a heart attack.
This is the enormous mess that had to be cleaned up. Everyone thought I had lost my mind, including me. I took one peek into a cracked window, saw the baseboards, the huge spaces and said "I want this house". $18,000 sealed the deal.

Restoration of a mess
This is the 1901 transitional Victorian that my partner and I bought in April. It was a huge mess that required 4 1/2 dumpsters just to clean. Fortunately, we got it just in time to prevent it from being cut up into four apartments.

Cheap Double Glazing and What Can it do for my Home
Cheap Double Glazing And What Can It Do For My Home?
There are many benefits in converting your home and adding new double glazing units to replace your old units. To help you decide, this article explores the main benefits in converting from the traditional old single pained windows to double glazing.
Cheap Double Glazing
There are many companies out there selling cheap double glazing but dont be put off by the word cheap. In the old days the word cheap usually implied low quality. Todays double glazing units are mainly made from PVCu which is a form of plastic which has helped bring the cost of the product right down without reducing the quality of the product. The introduction of the modern materials have in fact improved the quality and below we will go into more detail as to why.
Double Glazing To Reduce Your Heating Costs
Probably the most well known of all the benefits of double glazing is the fact that by having it installed you can reduce your heating bill. It has been reported that 25% of modern households heating is being lost through their windows.
Although by having it installed you will reduce the heat lost through your windows by up to 10 or 12% the savings you will make on your heating bills will not cover the cost of your windows for a considerable ammount of time so bear this in mind when making any decision.
Security
With the many differnt locking mechanisms available and the flexibility of the products having double glazing fitted can help make your home more securecas its increasingly difficult for anybody to tamper with and break into.
Sound Insulation
Most people will tell each other that they have had double glazing installed to keep the noise out. Although your normal glazing will provide some
form of insulation against noise if this is your primary reason for wanting it installed then secondary double glazing is probably the better option. This process involves fitting another single glazed unit infront of the existing window providing another barrier for the sound. The bigger the air gap
the more efficient the sound insulation will be.
Visual Representation and Performance
Double glazing aswell as coming in PVCu can also take the form of, hardwood and softwood to give your home that more traditional look whilst
still providing the level of security and energy saving aspects as described above. Compared to older style windows the modern double glazed window looks a lot more sleek and stylish and with it coming in many different materials and colours you are sure to find the window that best suits your home.
Double glazing units are much easier to clean and also allow people to reduce or eliminate the need for window coverings such as netting making the ideal choice for low maintenance customers. In todays world speed is a must so having these modern low maintenance windows is a great idea for anybody with an extremly busy lifestyle.
Resale Value
Whilst you cannot re sell your new units (unless you really want to) they have proven that they have improved the re sale value of many homes compared with homes that have more traditional window units installed. In todays stagnant housing market anything taht you can do to improve the value of your home is worth it.
To summerise there are many benefits to installing cheap double glazing in your home which include, lower heating bills, increased security for your home, better sound insulation and lower maintenance not to mention increasing your homes re sale value. All that remains is for you to find the right supplier. There are thousands of them out there so be careful to choose the right one. Always ask for refernces and make sure you are happy with the price before going ahead. For additional information on Cheap Double Glazing, please visit http://www.amwindowsanddoors.co.uk
