Advice for window replacement / new construction
 

Hi,

I am having all of my windows replaced next week. It's a major job and they will be doing new construction. I have never had windows replaced. Can you tell me what to look for as I watch over them and inspect their work?

Why are they replacing the whole window and not just installing replacement windows?

If you're asking why we are not doing retrofit windows, the windows are very old and I am worried about leakage. I wanted to do the job once and not worry about it. Also, with retrofit windows you lose some of the glass area.

It's the sashes that leak on a window not the frames.
If there old wooden frames you can have them wrapped with aluminum coil stock for about $75.00 or less per window.
Lose about 1" of window area, or spend thousands of extra dollars in labor cost, up to you on that one.

Yes Pastafarian, I think this can be the better solution as it is more cost effective and less time consuming as there is no sense in wasting money. This can be utilized in anything else.
