aluminum windows in basement
 

The old aluminum frame is set onto the concrete with nails. The new replacement is narrow enough to fit inside this frame, if it wasn't for the 3/8 inch threshold designed to keep the window itself in place. Do I try to cut/pry the old frame completely out, leaving a much bigger hole? Or, can I do something to this threshold?
