DIY Concrete Staining

Anyone ever tackled a DIY concrete staining project with no previous experience? How did it turn out and what resources did you use to learn?

There are only about two basic ways to do this to my knowledge. One is simply using a paint product suitable for the purpose to cover the concrete.

Another method is Acid Staining. In Acid Staining the concrete is etched with acid then stained. One great source of information for Acid Staining techniques is at http://www.gayegoodman.com.

Beware there are concrete paints on the market that are labelled as "stains" but I don't consider them anything more than a paint.

^ What he said. I have no experience but I did my back patio. I cut a tile pattern into my concrete and then used some regular stain (Paint) and then some Acid stain and that is some awesome stuff. When i was done with that I used a stone enhancer/tile sealer on it to darken it up and I think it turned out great. I'll get some pics up when i find them.

Here it is a year later. Still need to finish the rest of the patio.
