Default One coat of paint over spackle?

Hi - we just bought a new house and really like the color inside. The problem is the staging of the house included a LOT of wall hangings so when we move in there will be nail holes everywhere. Also- the paint they used is flat paint and we would like to use eggshell for a little more durability. The color is a light tan/gray. Is there a way to spackle over the nail holes and then do one coat of the same color paint but in an eggshell finish rather than flat without it showing every spackled area?

I never saw your other post so forgive me but...

No. The egg will flash the spackle. Spot prime with the flat or a product like ppg 6-2 which is a pva primer. If you are only wanting to do one coat of egg I would spot prime twice to be sure. Normally I recommend two coats of egg but if you are on a budget the above may satisfy you.

You are more than likely going to have to do two coats. Your lighting and color selection are either going to hide, or highlight the flashing that occurs with only one coat. Either way good luck.

jmayspaint just posted a test with Dap Crack Shot, which claims it won't flash. According to his photo, it didn't. Post #3.
