Default Staining and Old Deck

What condition should I get the wood to in order to stain the deck?

My deck is left over from the previous owners and I want to re-stain, but the wood is in pretty bad shape.

Got pics? What is on it now?

Not knowing what you got going on I will play it safe and say replace any wood that needs it, tighten up loose boards, power wash and apply two coats of a solid stain. I like Arborcoat by BM but a good solid stain will be fine.

I had a deck that was left unstained or painted for a few years. I wanted to bring it back to as close to new as I could get it. I found bleach did the best job. after using the pressure washer, sander, and a few things that were just a total wast of time.
After the bleach dried, I sanded it all smooth, and it turned out very nice. Almost looked brand new.

What product did you end up putting on the deck?
