Default Who could have predicted this?

Wanted to put our house number on a plastic trash container.
Put craters in the surface outlining each digit with a soldering iron and cleaned them up with a countersink.

Last step was to put a drop of contrasting paint from a finishing nail into each pit. Easy, right?

Well, the paint consistently jumped 3" off the nail and made a radiating spray pattern onto the surface, I guess due to static charge.

Plan B is to drill through-holes, plan C is to put tape inside to give the hole bottoms a contrasting color.

I am just lazy -

I bought some adhesive boat licensing numbers from the hardware store and put on only the numbers and not the street name. - Available in rectangular or cut out symbols in rdifferent sizes and colors(reflected or not). Price was not bad and it was quick and easy.

Krylon Fusion spray cans are designed to adhere to plastic. Make a stencil of your number and spray away!

Alt idea for your original plan: ground the nail
Alt plan B : use a thin paint brush instead of a nail

Alt Plan "C": install LEDs - I know you want to.
