Default Color Shade Change

I have a room that was painted (medium plum?).
I applied a coat of Kilz2 but, can see where my roller overlaped and my cut ins stand out or are faded.
I want to return these walls as white as I can get them.
I think the primer will hold the white paint off the wall and allow for adequate coverage but, from the looks of the walls right now, I have to ask ....

Do I have to have an even layer of primer first or will my existing mess show through?

Hey KOK:
The Kilz2 will hold the plum back and let you go white again. The lap marks indicate a rather dry roller and not going back over the lap after you make each stripe. Using a heavier (with paint) roller will help to smooth out the lap marks, then hit the new lap marks with the dryer roller.

I got decent coverage w/o a second coat of primer but, I suck so bad at painting that the room will require a second coat.
