Here's an odd thing to consider, though it might not fit this situation. If the ceiling is very high in the small bath, bringing it down (but not below 8 feet in the US) can make it feel less cramped and generally better-proportioned. High ceilings and small floor space make people feel like the are at the bottom of a well. Try it out by taping up carpenter's paper at the height you are considering.

More and light and less stuffed. Take off all the unwanted stuffs from the bathroom. If you need storage space, have it outside on the way or near to the bathroom door, but definitely not inside. For frequently used materials, have wall hangings and decals. Use big mirrors and multi-lighting. If you have a tub and if you think it is not necessary, make it a walk-in shower. I dropped the tub and now I’m having a walk-in. For a division I have a perforated aluminum frame, which I got done from Bayview Metals, ON. It acts as a divider but due to the design it won’t hinder the visual treat.

You might want to try the following:

1) Keeping a consistent color
2) Staying away from big patterns
3) Create a Minimalist atmosphere

And finally:
4) buy luxurious looking bathroom fixtures so as to distract from the size and focus on the finish

Tip: for #4, take a look at the Lordear brand on Amazon, we've got excellent quality products for great prices.
