I'm currently remodeling a very old house, the walls in the bathrooms right now are panels that look honestly like plastic. I'm wondering if it's possible to tile over the walls in the shower area, I'll be wallpapering over the rest.

First determine for sure what the surface is made of. Tiling over plastic doesn't work.

You also have to make sure there's no mold or moisture behind those "plastic" walls, chances are there is.

No tiling over wall sheets. Tearout sheeted plastic and install CBU board in water environment.
