Default Dishwasher installation

How hard and expensive is it to install a dishwasher in a house that doesn't already have one? And how do I know where to put it?

All depends, what area is available to install the dishwasher? Post some pics of the area you have to work with.

Oh, and to House Repair Talk!

Cost will vary on a new install but, plan for the cost of the dishwasher, possible conversion of sink drain to accomodate dishwasher discharge if no gargabe disposal is present (otherwise, most garbage disposal have a dishwasher discharge connection built into them, cost of extending or running a new electrical source and a water supply hose off the hot water line under the sink. Total estimated cost depending on the model of washer could be in the $500-800 range (assuming a nearby power source that you could tap, most dishwasher are on a dedicated circuit).
Typical location would be next to the sink to make the water connections easier.

Most times the cupboard manufacture would install one section of cupboard that will easily adapt for the dishwasher. It will need 24" wide and require removel of the drawer and the kick below. Newer cupboards are boxes and a box may have to be removed and some of the older cubboards had the doors attched to aboards inside the cupboard that could be removed. It should be right next to or close to the sink.

Don't fall in love with a house, just like anything or anyone you might fall in love with, you have to get to know it, check it out, have it checked out and perhaps take a chance on it. Overtime if you are lucky you learn to trust it and make improvement which makes it home and good memories will be the love you are looking for.
