Beautiful Old Farm Table Smells!!

I'm a newbie and not sure where to post my question. Bought a wonderful old 7 foot farm table to use for our family. But, it was in someone's barn or garage and the top planks smell like fertilizer or something terrible. Have tried cleaning it with a water and bleach solution plus an odor eliminator spray. Even tried to seal in the ordor. No luck. Would so appreciate any help -- So great a table to waste ...

Did you apply the bleach solution to the UNDERSIDE of the table and the table legs?

Thanks for your reply...

Yes, we did. Today I applied a baking soda paste to the underside. My husband says it smelly like spilled bug spray ....

Well, I have heard of cases where pet urine has penetrated into wooden underlayment under a floor, and the only way to remove the odor was to replace the underlayment.

Maybe park the table in a garage or something for a while, and see if the smell gradually diminishes.

Otherwise, you might want to talk to some people in the furniture restoration business. They might know what other options are open to you.

I had this issue with a pool table. Get an IONIC BREEZE or similar ion generator. put the table in a garage and cover the whole thing with a plastic drop cloth that seals the whold thing in. Make sure the drop cloth "Stands Off" the table by @ least a foot (use four plastic milk crates or similar)
run it full blast few days.
Don"t uncover it to "Check Progress" very often; it's the ozone generation that will make it better. The older the Ionic Breeze the better, as ozone was a undesireable side effect of ion generation.
Good Luck

Thanks Shooter. I will try anything. Will look on Craig's list for an Ionic Breeze! Thanks again!

Had this issue on our old table but I haven't found a solution yet. Please let me know what worked best on your table and I'll give it a try too.

Frozen star, my son who works with wood said to try scrubbing it with a mild hand soap and rinsing it, then letting it sit in the sun. Am trying that now and will post something if it works! And, still pursuing the ionic breeze suggested by shooter.

Alright. Thanks... :) Let me know if it works!
