Which spacer for floor tiles?
I just have a noobish question regarding which spacer to use for my floor tiles.
I got a good deal on some 12" white bone color floor tiles at Home Depot.
I'm going to use them in my powder room, main bath and kitchen
Powder room : 5' x 5' - floor area : 35" x 5'
Bathroom : 9' x 5' - floor area : 4' x 5'
Kitchen : 8' x 18' - floor area : 4" x 18' ( including nook )
As you can see, they're small so I wonder which spacer would look good or is it just a matter of personal taste?
Home depot carry some 6mm, 5mm and 3mm i believe.
I used the 1/4" spaces in my tiling jobs. However, after looking at other tile jobs I would probably go with something smaller. Personally, I think the smaller grout lines look a little more high end. But, I'm not saying that 1/4" looks bad, I might have just went with someting a little smaller.
1/8 inch is the way to go unless youre tiling commercial. Anything larger IMHO loses the elegance that tile is supposed to have.
Keep in mind tho...tiles are never perfect in size or squarness. If you depend on the spacers, youre floor will 9 out of 10 times run out of square. Spacers are great in concept but best used as a reference guide/tool .
1/8" for a 12" tile and sanded grout
