I'm partial to hardwood.... classic, clean, rich.... Down here it really increases the appeal and marrket value of a home as well... carpet hold dust and moisture and allergens...

The current trend seems to be using hardwood instead of carpet. Less allergy trouble and less dust in the house as carpet is the biggest producer of dust. You can always go back to the hardwood after the carpet is ruined in 5 years or so.
