Wuzzat, I don't think he's building a fence. Said he wants to use 4 utility poles to build his deck, which are usually 10" or 12" in diameter.

But,

"Typical tanget [sic] poles and guyed poles have setting depths based on a rule of thumb: 10% of the total pole
length plus 2 feet. That is, if the pole is 40 feet long, approximately 6 feet is buried while 34 feet is above
ground."
