Black and white stains on brick
 

Hi,

The bricks on my house have black and white stains on them, almost as if they were painted black and the paint chipped away. I'd like them to look like simple red brick.

Can anyone tell me:

1. Are the bricks supposed to look this way?
2. If not, what happened to them?
3. What did they originally look like?
4. Most importantly: how can I make them prettier ?

That's what that style brick is supposed to look like. There's Not really any good way to change them now.
