Hopefully the water cam in just from the leak and not the ground. We always suggest using water repellent products like Faux Stone Panels when there is the potential for stone and brick to keep cracking and coming off. After you take all that time in scraping, repairing, match the existing brick look and paint, you should have something that will last. If I were you I'd wait until all is very dry and see if pieces are still coming off.
