That's how my old fireplace tv was. The built in cabinet had fake drawer fronts and there was a notch on the side so I could see the cable box and use the remote.

The contractor just came by and measured it all up. Instead of having a second pocket for the DVR, he recommended a hidden flip top, which should easily conceal one of the AR-15's, which I would have here if they weren't outlawed by the Kommiefornia Communist party.

Ooooops ... In California ... hearth is required by code if you use wood.

Thanks for this CMV. I looked all over that attachment and could not find the hearth requirements for a decorative gas log fireplace. Could you help me find it?
