In addition to the "private message or create a signature" privileges outlined in the 10 post rule, I think it would be a good idea to tell users that they must also make 10 posts before pics can be posted.

"At least that's what another member said about why my pics couldn't be seen."

I have till saturday, which is when I'm gunna get soaked with rain, to get an answer otherwise my project will get flooded.

Seems kinda dumb that a new member can join and try to get help with a project but cannot post pictures of what they are working on so they can be helped...

Likewise I'm trying to help some one find the tool they need to pull a moen cartridge that the center of the stem pulled out of and I can't post a link to the product...

Well no matter I got past the 10 posts in probably the first hour...
I guess I'm a blabber mouth thats why I probably have about 25,000 posts on forums....

The reason for the rule is to eliminate people joining to post pictures that no one wants to see. Trust me, sometimes the stuff that people/trolls can come up with to post is not something anyone should ever see.

I will look into the 10 posts before pictures and adjust that announcement accordingly.

That's easy, just head to the joke section and start tellen em.
Or wish everyone a nice day...or just share some info....we all get through it.
That keeps out the spam to a certain degree. It was really bad here at one point, I had all the connections to the blue pills anyone needed...not to mention the way out of country salesmen. No... not the Canadians.

I've been on several other forums for a couple of years..
A heavy hitter on at least 4 or 5 of them with probably 25k + posts, and mod/admin on one for a while.
The thing I see is filtering on the sign up page with the recognize these letters and numbers tends to weed out quite a few spammers...
At least the bots...
Careful moderation does the rest...

I'm just saying it may be something that is holding your forum back from being really useful...

Delete user is a fairly quick and easy thing with this software...

Also the language filter can be set so a lot of the words pertaining to blue pills and movies associated with them get turned to http://www.*****.com rendering their links useless.

I'm new here and don't want to be a bull in a china closet...

Please post a picture of that tub valve and post a picture of the drain pipe you installed go a long way in problem solving...

Vs. I have a shower valve that is chrome and has a metal (chrome) knob on it. What parts do I need to fix the drip coming out of the thingy....

Having been a member of many DIY Forums, I agree with the 10 post rule. Any site can be used for spamming the members when the rule is not in effect. Some sites do not allow Private Messages to be sent until this number is achieved. One website I was a moderator on, had new members sending PM's and e-mails to members trying to sell products.

There is also the little red triangle with the ! in it.
This allows users to report any inappropriate message or, posts...

It can quickly put any spammer on the moderation radar very quickly...

CAPTCHA, those distorted/colored letters that you have to read and copy, can be cracked. So, they are only marginally effective.

That along with a question or 2 usually cuts out most of the bots.
The filter will render at least the P*O*R*N, and M*E*D*S links ineffective for there is no point in continuing to post.
Active moderation and reporting does well with the rest...

Trust me some of the forums I'm talking about are very big and very active...
