We have a basement that is leaking like a sieve every spring and heavy rainfall. We wanted to seal it from the outside but found that we cannot trench around the house because it is built on bedrock. We would love to turn the basement into usable house space but are now contimplating building an addition onto the main floor instead and fill in the basement, since it would probably be cheaper. Any ideas of how to save the basement?? Thank you kindly...

if its on bedrock, someone still had to excavate so exterior excavations shouldn't be all that difficult,,, unless you're insured & willing to undertake the work, hire a pro waterproofer,,, unlike many, we have successfully installed exterior underground sumps & pumps ( many of our apts/conco's here in atl are 1/2 underground ),,, whether the $$ are significant to tilt your decision to either an addition OR using the avail space in your bsmt's another issue.

an interior sub-floor water management system is also an alternative & has bn successfully used in 1,000's of homes !

We are in a remote area of Canada with the nearest city four hrs away. We don't really have pro waterproofers. The trackhoe operator said that he tried to dig around the house for the previous owners and he couldn't without risking damage to the basement. What is the interior sub-floor water management system?
