Default rafter span table for Southern Cal--high desert
I am in the high desert part of southern Cal.

Is there a website that lists the max span for rafters listed for 2x6 and 2x8 etc for my area.

What is the general grade for lumber (select, 1 or 2 etc) at home centers like Lowes and Home Depot?

The grade of lumber at the stores have the grade right on them.
For your rafters go talk to the local building inspecters
