Which is better?

I would think it to be a matter of personal preference, really. Steel has it's benefits... lighter, easier to work with, cleaner (no sawdust), although, you don't get that satisfying zing of using a power saw.

If you are not interested in insulation of the wall, steel is OK even if it is thermal short circuit.
