Drain water coming through the tap??
 

I recently bought a home that's 5 years old.

After staining my deck, I cleaned the stain sprayer in the laundry tub.

Then, while cooking dinner, I go to get some water from the kitchen sink, and it's almost a golden colour! (the stain was a ceder like colour). I let the tap run for over an hour before it came clean, but this is disturbing to me. . .how can the water with stain that went down the drain in my basement find its way back up into my kitchen??

Don't know if it matters, but could my water softener have anything to do with this?

Any help would be appreciated.

More info is needed. Are you on a well water system? where is your septic tank in relationship with your well.?
also, how often does your softener go thru a "re-charge" ?

On municipal supply & sewage. . .

The softener recharges every night. . .
