Hello,
I'm going to be installing a waste disposer (first time). If I have a dishwasher, is the dishwasher always to be connected to it? May be a stupid question, but wondering if you can install without needing to connect to dishwasher?

Why, the disposer has the connection built in , where would you hook it up?

No you do not have to hook it to the disposal, but it is the easiest way, unless it is connect some where that you are not connecting the disposal.
The disposal has a plug inside the connection so you do not need to hook the DW to it, But if you do hook the DW to the disposal make sure you punch out the plug.
