I'll be keeping a Photo Journal in my Gallery of the outside work being done on the house. Here's a short list of what's to come:

- All the old wood siding, window and door casings and trim work will be torn off and replaced by concrete siding (we are keeping the dental work up top)
- Insulation put in the walls (yay!!! lower utilities)
- New roof (Or at least a good part of it depending on what the guy says today)
- New Gutters
- The window on the front facade ripped out and replaced
- New Paint
- Porch is getting ripped out from the roof to the ground and being completely re-built (water damage and the city says so!!)

Other than that, there's nothing new going on here... unfortunately we have to get a contractor out to do 99% of the stuff cuz the ordinaces where we live won't let us do it sicne we are not liscenced contractors (damn). I've added the pictures already, so let me know what you think.

The ordinances won't allow you to work on your own home?
The list you have provided would take forever to complete.
The contractors should be able to get guys in there and get them out and make big changes fairly quickly.
Can't wait to see the pics!

Yeah... the city won't let us do anything that involves a load bearing support on the soutside of the house (that kills the porch) and we arent' allowed to do the siding because of the waste disposal stuff that they have in effect (asbestos hazard and such, along with lead paint and the insualtion they are putting in). We aren't liscencec roofers, and all that jazz... so it really sucks.

Hello Kansas Chic:
My sympathy goes out to you and your bank account. I hope you can find a Certified Remodeler in the Home Builder's Assocation, who can take care of all your projects. A parade of specialists would drive you up the wall, make you mad, not complete their work, take the money and run..... do you get my drift?
Some of the things you will need are:
1. A written contract
2. proof of liability and worker's compensation insurance
3. An unbiased inspector to verify completion of the parts
4. Checks made to the remodeler and their supplier (if the supplier signs the check, they can't come back on you to collect).
I am happy that you are willing to keep us posted with words and pictures; it should be fun.

Thanks for the advice Glenn. We have a City inspector tha thas come out and said you have to do this this and this before oct. 30. Then he's going to come back out and make sure that it's done and inspect the other work.
We have a general contractor working on what he can, then farming out the roof and the window, checks are made out to our contractor (who is also my grandmothers, she pays him every year for something, long story) and he pays the roofer, etc.

Work starts next week.

Work begins tomorrow and wow do the guys have their work cut out for them. It's been raining all weekend and the supplier dropped off the wrong shingles... (great).
Anyways... there goes my sleeping... work at night is about ot get impossible

We are supposed to have people ripping the house to shreds today.... Still waiting for them to show up....
