redwood shake siding
 

Hello,

new here with a question,the house I bought has a redwood shake siding around the garage and shed that was put in before we bought,my question is do I need to seal or waterproof this and if so could I just use a water seal like thompsons.

Welcome Clyde:
Redwood will weather better than any surface you can put on it. The Thompson's will dry out in a couple of years and I don't recommend it.
If you want to avoid the gray weathered appearance, you may want to consider a solid color stain. It is very similar to paint and will protect very well, will maintain a uniform color and will still allow the grain to show through.
