Default Band Saw

Someone please educate me on band saws. What can you do with one that can not be done with a table saw, mitre saw, jigsaw or circular saw?

For a home work shop a jigsaw mounted upside down in a table will do most anything you need all be it slower.

So most people buy bandsaws for production work? (I don't have one).

It's like anything else, when you find yourself cutting a pile of stuff with a jigsaw and your arms are killing you and back is about ready to quit you may decide a band saw wood be handy. If you do, stay away from the dinky toys go for 14"wheels. But if you can't think of why you need one, you don't need one.
