Buying a Router

I would not hesitate to purchase the Porter-Cable even if it's just around the house. I bought mine 12 years ago and have bought or used other ones and I still like it the best. If you can afford to buy the kit with 2 bases ( Plunge/Fixed) I would go for it. I find with almost all the tools I had not had as soon as I purchase one I seem to always use it or find a reason tho use it.

We have a nice PC router. It's been on the job now for about 20 years, and has performed flawlessly. We did have to replace the cord when it got dry and started to crack, but that's it. I give PC high marks!

We also have a RotoZip, which gets a LOT of work. It's great for fitting panels over electrical boxes, cutting wire grooves, and more. It's light and easy and comes with blades for just about every purpose, including ceramics.

I have the fixed base in a table and pull the motor and use it in the plunge base when I need portable. Its not the biggest router on the market but so far it has handled everything I need it to. I have built a lot of stuff with it over the years.
