Hey Ken:
Its just that there is a place to advertize; the cassifieds. No one is mad at you; as a matter of fact we are glad to have someone who can answer questions in your specialty.
Personally, I am finished with treated lumber decks; they require constant maintenance, look awful anyway, and the lumber does'nt hold up over the years. I'm sure you could tell me what we are doing wrong and it would help.

What do you consider to be "constant" maintainence? When its done right a wooden deck shouldn't need maintainenced again for 2 years in most parts of the country. At that time the deck shouldn't be in bad condition or be unsightly but would just need a light washing and a re-coat probably only on the horizontal surfaces.

Well Barry:
At my age the years seem to roll around so quickly that even 2 years seems to be 'constant'. You young guys go ahead with your decks and enjoy them, I'll give you 20 to 40 years to become as negative about them as I am.

Even some good stories are always fun to read, like when you first went to a job and found that very large bees nest next to you....on the ladder ....in your shorts.....you know,those stories.

Regular cleaning is not going to stop the ineffable. Lose boards, cracking, spliting ( and not just at the ends), rotton top side of joists and so on. Having to repair this all the time makes wood decks a real pain.
