After looking around for a good forum on DIY repairs and remodelling, I can say I found it.

I am about to embark on some major work on my old house located in North Texas.

I'm hoping I can stretch my $20,000 a long way and will be asking for help frequently I expect. Look forward to it.

You could do some pretty nice things for that much scratch if you DIY. Prioritize. I prefer to work from the inside out on a major remodel. Roof, siding, grading, windows, foundation all first (Not in that particular order). Then work inside.

Sometimes backwards I get my thoughts too.

Very good advice because....those are the things which cause havoc to your brand new insides when they leak ...water or energy.

Thanks for the insight. Fortunately the roof is in good shape from a redo a couple years ago. Windows and siding are on the list. I think my grading (refers to drainage?) is good to but not exactly sure what to look for other than no standing water around the foundation during a rain.

First thing I have to do is get the house repiped. Put in a water heater a while back and the pressure busted all kinds of rust loose and have lost most water pressure. Code requires licensed work. Quoted $2500 for 2 bathrooms and a kitchen so not a terrible amount of heartburn over it.
