Can I install sheetrock right over existing sheetrock?
 

Hello again,

I don't want to tear the ceiling out of this room, there is blown-in insulation in the attic. Can I just sheetrock right over the old sheetrock? I don't want to use strapping, I don't want the ceiling any lower than it is.

Make sure the seams don't line up with the old ones and use 2" drywall screws.

Painted panelling won't weigh as much but you'd still have to handle the seams somehow.
