What is the max bulb wattage for those cheap general purpose light fixtures that are normally found in garages? I wasn't sure if there was a norm for them, or if they are all different like most other lighting fixtures.

First figure out if you have 60C Romex or 90C Romex cabling.
Then open the packages for several fixtures of similar design and check the bulb wattage and wire insulation temperature unless both of these values are written on the outside of the package.
Average the max bulb wattages for the fixtures that use the same Romex insulation temperature rating.
