I have two very old toliets, probably 40 years old.

Everyday turn black with I assume waste. First a ring forms then spotting. This is everyday and only my wife and I live here.

As toliets get older do they lose the coating and allow stuff to stick easier?

Drain it, clean it, wax it.

Seriously, a marine grade wax should last a while and seal out the dirty rings. That's what boat wax is supposed to do on a boat's hull. I'd try it. It's a far cheaper fix than replacing the toilets.

Just be careful not to slide off....
Nice try Square Eye.....wax.....

You could also try repainting...like they do the tubs.
Just do it outside.Let the neighbors talk....read the paper.....
