Default drop ceilings
Is it against a firecode to install drop ceilings / suspending ceiling in a garage or is there firerated type out there that is acceptable

Ordiances with vary depending on where you live. I would place a call to Modesto city hall and check if with a building inspector to see if there is an ordiance for drop ceilings in a garage.
