This may sound silly. I grow bamboo in my house and I love it. I want to make some bamboo baskets, but I need to dry the bamboo first. Does anyone have any idea at all how to do this? (I am retired with lots of time to kill)
When I was in Vietnam we used bamboo for everything. It is the easiest process ever. Just cut it and lay it down to dry. If you want to weave it, do it while it is still freshly cut and then let it dry in it's new shape.
It's amazing what you learn in Vietnam. I was thinking the exact same thing and I learned it in the same place! When the bamboo is freshly cut you can use a hatchet to slice it into strips and weave them however you want. When they dry they are as tight as concrete.
