Default Onions flower? Good\Bad\OK?

Hello everyone,

I'm new to this forum. I look forward to learning and contributing to all of the gardening fun!

Here's my question:I planted onion sets last fall. They are starting to sprout flower stalks. I don't remember this happening the prior year, will they mature appropriately? Is there a recommended procedure, such as cutting off the blooms? Just wondering what everyone else's experience has been. I don't think I planted them to close together, approx. 6-8 inches apart. Any insite out there? It would be very much appreciated. I love the onions from my garden and it would be a shame for them not to turn out as nicely as last year. Thanks! Johanna

Hi Johanna,

Flowering is abnormal for your onions. Could be temperature fluctuations. Take a look here. Sorry about the pop ups at this site, but the info is good.
