Default Potatoes

I grew 700 pounds of potatoes this year. All of neighbours and I will be eating potatoes for every meal all winter. It's okay though, because they are so good!

That's alot of potatoes. If you were going to complain about having so many then why didn't you just plant less.

700 lbs? During rationing in Britain, esp. after WWII, families were allotted something like 3 lbs. of potatoes per week - you would have been very popular back then! What kind did you grow?

3 lbs for a family for a week?!? Do you know how many potatoes is three pounds? They better have gotten a lot of other food, too. Or else, you should check your history.

They got other foods, but all rationed as well. That is why gifts from Americans sent back to English friends after the war were so valuable. There have also been references to the effects of post-war rationing (the new ESPN movie, *Four Minutes*, references the coal rationing), and there was a rather funny movie about a proposed ham dinner (extremely rare during rationing), that starred Maggies Smith, among others.

SEVEN HUNDRED POUNDS??? I am in total shock. Where in the world did you store all that? You must have a febulous cellar. How many pounds of seed potatoes did you plant to end up with seven hundred pounds harvest?

I've planted potatoes for several years and was thrilled the year I harvested 20 pounds.
