stupid question about taping

Hi, this is probably a dumb question. do I need to tape the backerboard on doorway in my shower, or do I just put the thinset and tile on. thanks

Yup

Tape the backerboard with the fiberglass mesh tape and some thinset. Let it dry before you tile and thinset again.

Also I would use some redguard or a similar waterproofing over the concrete board, under the tile..only if this is in a shower.

I second the RedGard waterproofing layer.

thanks for the responses. I'm confuse about your statement about "only if this is in a shower". clarification please. thanks again.

Areas outside the shower, do not get as much water and don't need the redgard sealer, but all joints should be taped.

Ok

Yup...what he said...:D
Basically , save it for the wet areas. I also include the wall where a shower door may get installed, a wet area. Just as a precaution against any water damage later on.
Good luck...and by the way...there are no dumb questions...just answers sometimes!
