Cutting laminate countertop
 

I am looking to cut a straight line on laminate (known as mica) countertop.

In the past, I would turn it upside down and tape the nice side with tape. Then I clamped down a piece of wood for reference on the back-end and saw it

What is the best method?

You got it, that's the way I do it.

There are more complicated methods out there but that is the easiest way. It produces some of the best results too.
