Laminates just don't look right nor real. They do seem to hold up but give me 3/4" of real wood any day. It will last for decades or even a century and can be rejuvenated just by sanding and refinishing.

Funky hammer but Vaughan is a good company. 29 year old model 99, still going strong.

Don't be too quick to judge, I've been working with wood for over 60 years and I can tell you that some of the better laminates would fool the best of us.
