Default Kitchen remodel

Hello,

We are almost (hopefully) done remodeling our kitchen, but we ran into a little snag. We have rearranged how our kitchen is situated by moving the plumbing, electrical, etc. We were planning on extending an existing register in our kitchen out through the bottom of our cabinets, but unfortunately part of the register will come out where the two cabinets meet up. The current register is 12 inch by 2 1/4 inch. Will it hurt anything to reduce the size to 8 inch by 2 1/4 inch? Any other creative ideas so we do not have to cut into brand new cabinets?

Should we have someone create a custom piece for us? Approximately how much does it cost to do that?

Thanks,

Paul

Hello Paul:
Reducing the size of the register will limit the air flow, reducing the heat and air conditioning available to the kitchen. To me, the most important thing about an under cabinet (preferably under the sink) register is the benefit of keeping the water and drain from freezing.
Perhaps you will have another register in the kitchen, which could make up for the smaller size. I don't remember a register the size you have quoted.
Another option is to use the 2" round vents that pop in the hole and are directional. Use as many as you want and direct them to the needed places.
