Wall Unit/Furnace Option?

We're in a small house (<700'). The forced air furnace is centrally located. Is there any reason I couldn't replace the furnace with a wall unit and eliminate the ducting? Or, are there questions I should ask myself to decide if it's an option?

You can put a wall furnace in, but i don't think you will like it, compared to a good central system. I have been installing both for many years. The wall unit heat up the liv. din. area two hot and the bedrooms are still cold . Its too hard to control the temp in the area the unit is installed. Every time the fan comes on you will be turning up the TV. Also with a central unit you can get 95 % eff and get a tax credit for buying it. Over the years you will spend a lot more money to
heat with the wall unit. later Paul

Thanks for the advice. I suppose I can reroute the ducting. It's currently in these goofy, retrofitted soffits.
