Default pool wiring

I have a 220 pool pump i want to run on a timer . I know i need a gfci breaker but do i need to run a neutral to the timer?

We do not know what kind of timer you have so this really can't be answered but, if the timer will be 120V you will need to provide for a neutral for the timer.
