Turns out somebody wiredother plugs and switched plug but instead of using black wire to switch they used white. they did everything right except that. I didn't even know it would work. We've been in the house 8 years, so don't know how long it's been working. We had the neutral wire to the barn loosen up at the post outside and it caused lights to go bright and then low, was told this could be dangerous. Not sure how dangerous neutral thru switch was but glad it's fixed. Thanks for the help, especially gatorfan.
