  • Posted in thread: Adding an outlet to a circuit of BX wiring w/ metal boxes? on 12-15-2012 at 09:17 AM
You'd be wise to have Sparky run completely new grounded wiring all the way from the service
panel to the new boxes. Possibly even consider doing so to more existing circuits, especially
    those that ha...

I think I've arrived at a different decision.I have to refinish a piece of the floor in the
spring anyway. When I'm doing that I plan on chopping the wires and pulling them both into the
    basement and ...

This outlet is in my guestroom, but it's the same single gang box with one coming in and one
going out as well as the outlet, so 3 sets of wires total in the box.

  • Posted in thread: insulating the attic of a 1955 ranch..what is this foil film? on 11-24-2010 at 01:26 PM
Yep - found some of that in my house as well (1930). I literally let out a chuckle and mumbled
to myself "Are you what they thought of as a radiant barrier back in the day?"

  • Posted in thread: Attic Insulation Baffles? on 11-24-2010 at 01:24 PM
I don't see any baffles. Was the contractor supposed to install them? The slope doesn't look
very steep so I'm guessing there's no side attic - do you have soffit vents?

I think I found a way to "MacGyver it". Stay tuned....

Thanks. I thought about the spray foam, but decided against it for a couple of reasons, cost
being one, but also the fact that I'm not doing the entire attic. If the attic was open and the
    plaster was...
