  when it is not working, check for power to the blower. Does the blower make noise when
  starting? If so this is a sign of a failing motor or capacitor. Check the power first.

  you might consider a new furnace. Furnace's with smart valves seem to be made on the cheap, I
  would steer clear of any furnace with a smart valve for your replacement furnace.

  yes, simply set to desired temp and push hold. It should not move off of that setting unless
  someone moves it. If the furnace does not reach the set temp then that is a different problem
  all together.
