Pictures would help but my gut response is I would tile it. Maybe get bullnose tiles that match the wall tile and use those...

House is looking great man...I have the same problem with my bathroom pics...I just can't seem to get pics that truely show the color of my tiles :(

A lot of the motion sensor light switches will pick up motion anywhere within a 180 degree area so they should work as long as you can see the switch when you walk in.
