An underwater or outdoor spot light might also look nice and help solve your problem too. I know we used to always find creative ways of placing lighting in to our water features.

I agree with Stoggs...you can drastically change the "appearance" of the color in a room just by choosing different types of lighting AND different types of bulbs (ie: cool, warm, fluorescent, ect.)...

After doing a lot of projects in the southeast, I can definitely say you would be perfectly fine putting in recessed lighting in this space.

However, just as mentioned before, don't go overboard....

In some of the smaller towns in California, I notice a lot of ranchers using wind energy with positive results. The initial cost is steep, but the long term effect is very good.
