Thank you very much. I'm going to assume it's drywall, then, and go from there. It seems a little thick to be drywall, but then it's on an outside wall so the builder might have picked the thickest...

You could also try CCleaner. It automates a lot of cleanup and gets a lot of junk that most built-in programs don't get. Also, its registry cleaner has sped up a number of computers I've serviced....
