When the builder built my house the back of the toilet was right up against the wall. They replaced the back of the toilet with a skinny one and that solved the problem. It appears the rough in was off, I measured and its 11”. Now I want to replace the old toilet with a chair height one. Should I buy a toilet for a ten inch rough in or is there a better way to solve my problem? Would this give me a little extra space on the back of toilet so it won’t touch the wall?

Your recommendation appears to be a very nice toilet. My concern is the back will still be too close to the wall, I want a minimum of 1” clearance. This makes it easy for painting & cleaning behind the toilet. Would a 10” rough in toilet be better suited for my needs? Also I want a chair height toilet with a minimum Bowl Rim Height: 17 in.

Thanks again!

Then a 10" rough toilet would give you more room for that purpose.

I would recommend visiting the manufacturer websites and looking at the specifications for any toilet you are considering as it will show the distance between the tank and the wall and the correct rough in.

If you buy a toilet with a 10" rough and it would have 1 1/4" between the tank and the wall then install it on an 11" rough you will end up with a 2 1/4" space. At some point it starts looking like it is out in the middle of the room. Then too you may end up with one of those folks that likes to relax and lean back against the tank which stresses the tank to bowl connection when the wall isn't close.

I highly recommend checking your choices for flush performance at this website. http://www.map-testing.com/about/maximum-performance/map-search.html

10" rough and ADA severely reduces the number of models available...

I'm partial to Toto Toilets I'll admit it... They have 3 models you might consider...

All of them have a 3/4" space which with your rough will give you a 1 3/4" space.

I’m new at this and a little slow but I think I’m getting it now :)

If I go with your first recommendation I would end up with a 1/4 “clearance :(

Your 2nd recommendation I would end up with a 1 ¾” clearance.

The current toilet is a St. Thomas Creations 6206 Marathon II 12” rough in toilet sitting on a 11” rough in with a 1” clearance. No wonder it was right up against the wall. I wish the builders could be a little more accurate on the rough INS. My toilet in the other bathroom is around 13 inches.

Thanks,
Much appreciated!

Yep! It looks like you have it figured out now...
